Last week, I attended the MIT-ASU Design Innovation Workshop 2012, which was held in Delhi, India. This was the 2nd edition of the workshop and was definitely bigger in scale than the previous one held at COEP, Pune in 2011.
Being a part of this workshop for 2 consecutive years, I feel that the workshop has established itself as one of the prestigious events in India which attracts a lot of talented people. And so far, the journey has just begun. I think with the kind of commitment the organizers have, the future of this workshop is bright and next year, it will get bigger and better.
The amazing thing I like about this workshop is it gives me a chance to interact and network with awesome and talented people. The acceptance ratio being less than 10% itself says about the quality of the workshop. The instructors are very knowledgeable and interacting with them gives me a different perspective on how to think differently. The workshop is like amalgamation of different cultures and people. And indeed, people share ideas. The best part about the workshop are the keynote speeches from people who are 'God' like. Listening live to the director of Media Lab, Joi Ito, is itself a great honor. Also listening to Prof. Josepf Paradiso was also inspiring.
The success mantra behind the workshop is that the instructors motivates us to think out of the box. The brainstorming sessions really helps. Also, the cycle of brainstorming, prototyping and critique of an idea is never taught in India school setting. And the fact that this workshop is associated with MIT Media Lab, itself inspires the participants to perform and give there 100% to make something.
I am sure I will participate next year and will urge you guys to do the same as attending this workshop will not only upgrade your skills but will give you lot of opportunities and lifetime of memories to cherish.
I will upload a presentation which gives detail about all the awesome projects done by the participants soon..
