Recently I took a course on Coursera.org called Maps and Geospatial Revolution. This course is offered by PennState and it teaches about Cartography and Spatial Analysis. In the final project of the course, we are asked to make a map on a topic which shows something of value/importance in a chronological order. And what better than making a map about India's Independence Struggle.
India's Independence Struggle is a topic which is really close to my heart since I am from India and some of my family members (my great grand uncle and his friends) took an active part in the freedom struggle against the British. Also, all the history books in India are filled with this topic.
My map was made online using this awesome tool called ArcGIS by ESRI. The ArcGIS provides a very easy to use web interface to build a map. It allows to add images and list places and then export the map for sharing. Below is the screenshot of my map.
This map includes Swadeshi Movement, Jallianwala Bagh massarce, Dandi march and other events. It shows 12 events and the places were it happened. I also pulled images from google to show on my map. Link to my map.
Finally, I would highly recommend to take this course on coursera.org and any other course on such online educational sites like udacity.com or edx.org
