Over the years since I started blogging, lot of people have asked my - 'Why do you like tech stuff' or 'why you write geeky stuff' kind of questions. And today, I am going to answer or justify why I write these esoteric stuff.
When I started blogging in 2009, my motto was to share knowledge with people. The things which I had done or the projects I was making, were mostly different from what was available out on internet and I felt that if I could explain these projects in a simplified manner, then it would help others and give them a starting point. Also, another aim for this blog was to make people aware of the technologies existing around and mostly how to do hardware tinkering.
From 2009 till today, I just write my views on the topics which require attention or which I feel are important to the society. I don’t like to give advice as neither I am experienced nor I am competent of giving it. There are lots of great blogs which gives advice on food, weight loss, personal care, etc. I don't want to add my blog in that category. I just want to showcase the world what I build, so that people can get a helping hand if they want to build something similar.
Generally, I think that knowledge and money/power are two main categories which people shy from sharing with others. Each of these 2 categories have two kinds of people - one who shares and one who doesn't.
So, the 4 categories are:
1. People with money/power who don't share it - Eg. politicians (may be) or businessmen
2. People with money/power who share it - Eg. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet
3. People with knowledge who don't share it freely - Eg. consultants who charge hefty fees
4. People with knowledge who share it freely - I am aiming to be one !
So, I think I am in the 4th category - 'people who share knowledge freely' because my motto is - 'Sharing is Caring'. I will continue writing relevant stuff to share it with the world !
I believe sharing increases knowledge. Knowledge should flow freely like water. When you share it, you will get more back. If some person is stuck in a project and if you know the solution, then helping that person will surely have a benefit for both as the person will now be able to finish the project and you will learn more about the project, which will lead to new ideas.
Sharing increases idea exchanges and leads to generation of new ideas which ultimately results into innovation. When you have an idea, and share it with people, they get excited and give tons of new ideas or approaches as an add-on or substitute of the original idea. And this process goes on until the idea is fully evolved and can be called an innovation. Different people have different thinking capabilities and different outlook. So, if you keep an idea within yourself, it will not grow or diversify as you will always think on the same lines. Sharing it with people of different outlooks leads to heterogeneous responses as people have varied thought processes. And this I can claim from my experience.
So, on a closing note, if you have knowledge, share it freely with the world as 'Sharing is Caring'. Happy sharing :)
Good thought, Darsh... sharing without expectation or reward is a divine gesture and a very noble one... good work... wish you all the best...
ReplyDeletehowever, in one regard I disagree with you where sharing can be detrimental to those with whom you share your knowledge... let us say that you worked very hard to gain some knowledge... and it is valuable knowledge... you benefited not just by knowledge acquisition but also going through the process of acquiring the knowledge... the journey taught you many a lessons.. which shape your life and personality...
now, if you just give that knowledge out to those who have not really worked hard or have no inclination to work hard either... are you really helping them?? I think that you are creating individuals who have the knowledge but don't have the Fundas.. this makes them weak in application of knowledge and eventually they become dependent on such "pieces of knowledge' shared (thrown at) with them with noble intentions by people like you...
As the wisemen say, Don't give them the fish..rather teach them how to fish... this will make them happy for a life time with respect and hard work...
Take care and good luck!!
I totally agree with you. As you have always taught us - showing us the pointers/direction i.e. showing the path but the onus is upon us to pursue it. So give a starting point, but help the person as a guide - don't spoon-feed :)
